Steven Moffat of Doctor Who announced in a news event on 21st march 2012, that Coleman will take over the role of Karen Gillan after she and Arthur Darvill had left. Moffat picked her to play the part because she was the most successful in her interactions with Smith and could speak more rapidly than Smith.
