Coleman is a Lancashire native. She was a headgirl of Arnold School, Blackpool and received straight A's in her A level. Coleman regrets not having get a normal university education when discussing her experience at Emmerdale. The British Soap Awards 2009 nominated her in both the Best Actress - Sexiest Feminine and the category for Best Dramatic Performance. Coleman was nominated for Best Actress at the TV Choice Awards. Steven Moffat of Doctor Who announced in a news event on 21st march 2012, that Coleman will take over the role of Karen Gillan after she and Arthur Darvill had left. Moffat picked her to play the part because she was the most successful in her interactions with Smith and could speak more rapidly than Smith. She was more popular on television. Eva has played a variety of parts on the screen, but two stand out: The role of Dr. Maria Santos' role in All My Children as well as the role of Detective Natalia Boa Vistas which was in CSI Miami.
